Retrospective

Estudia cine en el Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (CCC) de México. Ha escrito y dirigido varios cortometrajes de ficción: entre ellos se destacan “Novia mía”, premiado como Mejor Cortometraje en el Festival de Biarritz (Francia, 1996) y en el Festival de Cine de Guadalajara (México, 1996); “El ojo en la nuca”, recibe entre otros premios el Oscar Estudiantil al Mejor Cortometraje Extranjero (EEUU, 2001) y el Ariel al Mejor Cortometraje de Ficción (México, 2001); “30-30” forma parte del largometraje colectivo “Revolución”, presentado en los Festivales de Cine de Berlín y Cannes (2010). También ha dirigido y producido tres largometrajes: “La Zona”, “Desierto adentro” y “La demora”, los dos primeros escritos en conjunto con Laura Santullo. “La Zona” obtuvo entre otros premios el León del Futuro a la mejor Opera Prima en la 64 Mostra Internazionale D´Arte Cinematografica di Venezia (2007), el Premio de la Crítica Internacional (FIPRESCI) – Toronto International Film Festival (2007) y Mejor Opera Prima en el Festival de Estocolmo (2007). “Desierto adentro”, se estrena en el Festival Internacional de Cine en Guadalajara (2008), donde, en la competencia nacional, recibe el Premio Mayahuel a: Mejor Película, Guión, Actor, Actriz, Fotografía y el Premio del Público, aparte del Premio Mezcal al Mejor Largometraje otorgado por un jurado joven. Poco después obtiene ocho Premios Ariel otorgados por la Academia Mexicana de Ciencias y Artes Cinematográfica. A nivel internacional es invitado a clausurar la Semana de la Crítica en el Festival de Cannes (2008) y recibe el Premio de la Crítica Internacional (FIPRESCI) en Haifa International Film Festival, Israel (2008), el Golden Goose al Mejor Largometraje en Festival on Wheels, Turquía (2008) y el Premio del Jurado en el Festival de Amiens, Francia (2008) entre otros. “La demora” se estrena en la Berlinale donde es reconocida con los Premios del Jurado Ecuménico (2012) y el Tagesspiegel Readers (2012) de la sección Forum. 

He studied film at Centro de Capacitacion Cinematografica (CCC) in Mexico. He has written and directed several fiction short films: among them “Novia mía”, that won Best Short Film at the Festival of Biarritz (France, 1996) and at the Guadalajara Film Festival (Mexico, 1996); @**@El ojo en la nuca” received amongst other awards the Student Oscar for Best Foreign Short Film (USA, 2001) and the Ariel for Best Fiction Short Film (Mexico, 2001); @**@30-30@**@ is part of the collective film titled @**@Revolution@**@, presented at the Berlin Film Festival and Cannes (2010). He has also directed and produced three films: @**@La Zona@**@, @**@Desierto adentro@**@ and @**@La demora@**@, the first  two were written Laura Santullo. @**@La Zona@**@ won among other awards, the Lion of the Future for Best Debut Film at the 64th Mostra Internazionale D´Arte Cinematografica di Venezia (2007), the International Critic”™s Prize (FIPRESCI) - Toronto International Film Festival (2007) and Best Debut at Stockholm”™s Film Festival (2007). @**@Desierto adentro@**@ premieres at the International Film Festival in Guadalajara (2008), where, in the national competition, it received the Mayahuel Award: Best Film, Screenplay, Actor, Actress, Photography and Audience Award, besides obtaining the Mezcal Award for Best Feature Film awarded by a young jury. Shortly afterwards he obtained eight Ariel Awards from the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences.
